Free Indie Music Compilation - netBloc Vol. 27: Straight Outta The FMA

Friday, March 05, 2010
Our Song "I'm Doing Fine" I'm Doing Fine by Lorenzo's Music from our album Solamente Tres Palabras is a featured track on Bloc Sonic's recent web album compilation netBloc Vol. 27: Straight Outta The FMA. This album features music from WFMU’s Free Music Archive.

Here is part of the post from Bloc Sonic:
"After a good three months of listening to thousands of FMA tracks, I somehow managed to whittle the selection down to 11 exceptional gems. It was really a difficult choice, but in the end the final line-up proves to be a terrific mix of Rock, Pop, Punk, Indie, Trip-Hop and even a splash of humor thrown in for good measure."

The Bloc Sonic post even features a full Album Booklet to go with the album.

A Song Review From The Music Blur Music Blog

Saturday, February 20, 2010
James over at Music Blur took the time to do a post about us and we thought we'd show you what he had to say about our song -
I'm Doing Fine by Lorenzo's Music I'm Doing Fine from the album Solamente Tres Palabras.

"This song will get stuck in my head for days on end, but that’s not such a bad thing in this case. I’m Doing Fine is off the album Solamente Tres Palabras which translates to Only Three Words. You can thank my 7th grade Spanish teacher Senora McCoy for that bit of trivia. Oddly enough, every song on the album has only three words in the title. It kind of reminds me of Trashman’s Shoes by Shoulders, but just a tad less drunken carnival like. It’s definitely my favorite tune on the album, but you should check them all out anyway. I mean, it’s free."

The blog mainly posts music videos but as he says on his site, he didn't want to have to wait for a video and put our song up anyway.

Thanks James!

All our music now CC-BY-SA

Sunday, January 17, 2010

Sure, we've had our music licensed as Creative Commons for quite some time now. But we've mainly used the non-commercial one. This version meant you could only build upon our work non-commercially.

Now under the Attribution Share Alike license or CC-BY-SA, you can remix, tweak, and build upon our music even for commercial reasons, as long as is credited to us and licensed under the identical terms.

This probably means more to us then it does to you. But it also means you can share our music with anyone for free and not hurt our feelings. :)

As a matter of fact we're going to help you do that right now:
  1. Choose one of the albums below.
  2. Then on the album's page click the "download" link.
  3. In the pop-up window enter "0" in the price field - or you could donate an amount if you would like. :D
  4. Enter you friends email and click "submit".
An email will be sent to your friend with a link for the download.
Although you may want to let them know you did this so they don't get confused.

Solamente Tres Polabras - Jamendo Fan Review

Wednesday, November 25, 2009
Jamendo.com is a great site filled with like-minded Creative Commons artists like us. It's a fan based community, a lot like last.fm but for the artist. You control your musical rights and distribution. But more importantly, it's fan based.
We've been on Jamendo for over a year and are still getting great comments on our albums. Like this one for our 3rd release Solamente Tres Polabras.
"They inspire me...great work. I would like to see them live." - hinkletuttle
http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/46485/review_detail?review_id=210917

Another person saw this review and had to hear what he was talking about and wrote a response of his own.
"Wow-I just had to hear what hinkletuttle was raving about and I have to agree that this group is o-u-t-s-t-a-n-d-i-n-g!" - orangeupurple
http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/46485/review_detail?review_id=211305

Thanks for the reviews, and thanks to all the reviews we've received since we've been on Jamendo.
If you're a band and looking for a place to host your music I highly recomend this site.

Want to check out this album for yourself? You can download it for free or name your own price if you feel generous :)

A Few Fun Facts About Tonights Show

Thursday, October 22, 2009
Here are some fun facts about our show at the High Noon tonight.
  1. Scott is in Spain. So, Kevin Dunphy of Fever Marlene was kind enough to fill in for him on drums tonight.
  2. Mark has injured his hand and will be playing all of his guitar parts on keyboards. And Eric (our actual keyboardist) will be on guitar from time to time.
    • We practiced our set this way last night with Kevin, and it was kind of a cool take on the songs, playing them from a whole new angle. We're excited to try this out live.
  3. The Melismatics and Soul Shaker are two great bands and you should come down and see us all perform tonight.

Free Multimedia Of The Week MP3 Blog Review

Saturday, August 15, 2009
The mp3 blog Free Multimedia Of The Week just posted a review of the band:
Lorenzo’s Music is one of those bands that manages to make every track have a different sound (kind of like the band CAKE). Making subtle but effective use of their saxophone as well as unorthodox percussion parts that utilize a range of genres they create a recognizable and solid style.

A Recent Review - Download Free Punk Albums mp3 Blog

Sunday, August 02, 2009
The Download Free Punk Albums mp3 blog featured us on the site recently and had an interesting take on what the band sounded like.
"Lorenzo's Music is one of those odd little creations you find and just don't quite know how to describe. My best attempt would be to say that they feel like a rock and jazz version of cabaret punkers The World/Inferno Friendship Society."

Our Past Five Years Justified By Trent Reznor

Thursday, July 16, 2009
Back in 2005 when we released our album "Solamente Tres Palabras" we built our band on a new model. An internet/Creative Commons model.

I was turned on to the Creative Commons License by the new medium of podcasting.

It was a simple concept, let people download your music, play it and use it as long as they share-alike giving credit to the artist. So you weren't just giving them your music. You were giving it to them and asking that they give credit and point others back to you while retaining your rights, in not so many words. You can view the full words of our license here.

Later, I saw this movie RIP! A Remix Manifesto at a local Open Everything Event. The movie proved to me that the copyright model as we know it today is broken and corrupted.

Music should be in the hands of the artist. And with the internet our websites ARE our labels.

This means, we say what we want to do with our music and can get it to the people under our own rules. Promotion is our tool that we control thanks to social networking and the fantastic people that create these services for us.

I've been thinking this for 5 years now and since then we've also released our newest album "BAZAR" under the same model.

Recently I was sent a link to this post that Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails had put on his own website.
my thoughts on what to do as a new / unknown artist

Established artists are starting to get it. That's good news for everyone.

This made us think about what we've been doing and try to push it even further.
We are working on new songs right now and plan to release them as singles on this website as well as video, special mixes and whatever we think of along the way.

This website is going to to be.... us, creatively.

So, stay tuned and see what happens.

New Lorenzo's Music album out now... And Free!

Sunday, August 31, 2008

It's here! The new album "Bazar" by Lorenzo's Music.

Here is a review of the new album by Tom Laskin of The Isthmus:

Bazar, from longtime cabaret rockers Lorenzo's Music, is a surreal sonic safari that finds leaders Tom Ray and Mark Whitcomb fiddling about with both discombobulated pop tunes and slew-footed R&B-inflected rockers that owe a lot to everyone's favorite ash can saint, Tom Waits. The CD's bass-heavy lead cut, "Old Old Story," has a bittersweet swagger about it that ought to appeal to both Waits fans and the legions of folks who were thrilled by Leonard Cohen's mid-life move into contemporary cabaret fare.

The same is true of the louche rumba "All's Good That Ends Well." As always, Lorenzo's stylish, gravel-voiced singer Ray is in complete control of his striking pipes as he dips and sways through a fractured musical landscape peopled by beautiful losers, tempestuous lovers and twisted back-alley creatures who look good even when they're falling hard.

The CD's packaging may be simple, but don't let that fool you. These guys are one of the most sophisticated outfits in the area. If they were based on one of the coasts, they'd be penning soundtracks.
You can listen to the new album on the player at the website or download the album for free in the audio section.

Lorenzo's Music | Dane101 article

Friday, December 28, 2007
This is part of dane101's series looking back on 2007 and forward at 2008 through the eyes of local politicians, musicians, organizations, and businesses

So....2007...how was it?

The year was pretty good for us. Most of it was working on new songs, ideas and the like. Plus the addition of two new children for Mark Whitcomb and Bryan Elliott (seperatly, not together.) And we've branched into the realm of video casting in relation to the new material we've been working on.

What do you have on tap for 2008?

We have a new album in the works as well as creating a new website. And, just like the last time our new album will be free for download.
